My Mess
It's often I claim that I'm a hot mess
Though it took many years for me to confess
Seeing "right" through my eyes, as the Bible proclaims
Yet unknowingly destined to eternal flames.
I studied the wreckage I once called my life
Nauseated by pride and my scandalous strife
Unwilling to ignore all the harm I had done
I searched for the moment it all had begun.
Paralleling the wake of destructive debris
I sought for the reason which sparked this in me
Through misty glazed eyes, I fought back my tears
Reminiscing the wreckage of all of my years.
What caused me to look back? I guess I should explain…
I put my faith and trust In Christ's glorious name.
Behold, my vision was new, clearly I saw my shame
Where before I simply had others to blame.
So when this gut-wrenching journey tapered to a halt
It was abundantly clear that it was all my fault
While wiping my eyes at where it all did begin
I started turning back to see the salvage again.
While clearing my eyes, I looked up to see
A hurt, selfless child had been following me
He said He'd joined me since the point I'd confessed
and was diligently cleaning up all I had messed.
I asked, "How will I get back?" He said, "I am the way.
You can trust in each word and each promise I say."
So in the direction of Truth, I press on to seek,
to inherit the earth with the rest of the meek.
