Skin is made of many layers, although simplified there are only
two: the outside layer of dead cells, called the epidermis, and
the underneath layer of living cells, called the dermis. The
outer layer is tough. It is always being rubbed off. We lose
millions of dead cells every day with normal wear.
The hands have a specially
designed system of curves and loops built into the surface, to provide
us with better grip. To help keep skin in place when under stress, God
has added fibres like ropes to anchor the skin in place.
The dermis is made mainly of a protein called collagen. It
contains nerves, blood, oil, fat and many other things.
Skin color is determined by
the amount of a brown pigment called melanin. Everyone has about the
same number of pigment cells, but in some people these cells produce
more melanin than in others.
There is no basis for racism
in skin color, since all humans come from only two original humans. We
are all one family, and therefore related by our blood line to our
original parents.
