If skin was a manmade product
we would not last very long! Our protective
covering would soon be a mess of holes and we
would leak out and die. But God designed our
skin to repair itself all the time, with a
maximum rate between midnight and
4 am when most of the other activities of
the body are at their lowest level.
One of the main tasks of the skin
repair service is to make sure the
epidermis with its layer of
dead cells is kept at the right
thickness. If wear and tear
speeds up, so does the
repair work. Otherwise our skin
would be either
too thick or too thin.
When the
sun strikes
pale skin, about
30-40%
is reflected back, but only about 15% is reflected off a black man. Of
the sunlight that is absorbed, some is absorbed as heat, and some as
ultraviolet. This is a high frequency form of radiation, which is able
to penetrate living cells and disrupt the molecules. The body defends
itself by manufacturing melanin. If the damage continues, the skin
becomes thinner, loses its elasticity, forms wrinkles, and in some
cases developers cancer cells.
When God first created
mankind, there was no need for protective clothing, but after the first
humans sinned the sun became a threat. God also commanded the wearing
of clothes
for modesty's sake. Modern-day nudism is a
misguided ideal, based on wishful
thinking. Until mankind is sinless
again clothing remains a very sen-
sible rule, as well as a practical way
of avoiding damage by our nearest star.
