When a metal bar is stressed
in the center, the sides where the stress begins is compressed, while
the other side is stretched. The middle of the bar is hardley stressed
at all, so a hollow metal tube is just as good. This is why so many of
Man's beams and supports are hollow. But bone is even better because it
is thicker near the middle. This makes it even stronger in weight for
materials than for example, a pipe.
The diagram shows a section
of bone taken from a horse. The bone is mostly hollow, and the bone
cells have formed diagonals, to carry the most stress with the least
materials. Living bone is exceedingly superior to anything designed by
Man. It is able to adjust itself to higher or lower stresses, repair
itself, and grow while still in use. As a functional material it
is perfect for the job it has been designed for. This indicates a
Intelligent Designer as its origin.
