Where do wars and fights come from
in a Christian fellowship?
Shouldn't Christians
get along?
Of all people,
Christians ought to be
models to the world
of love and harmony -
after all, they have
the Holy Spirit!?!
Unfortunately, the
sinful heart and the
ability to make choices
means that even
Christians can turn
away from God and
act like the worst
of the world.
James gives us a summary of some of these problems, and the root causes for these problems.
Just as every tree depends on its roots for its life, every sin has a root cause. If we know what the cause is, we can deal with the thing that grows from it.
Most problems between people seem to come from SELFISHNESS, that is, we tend to put ourselves first rather than think of others. We think OUR feelings, and OUR point of view, and OUR needs are more important than anyone else's.
Philippians 2:3,4 says:
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." Our best example of a man who practised Philippians 2:3,4 is Jesus, who, though He was God, humbled Himself to the level of servant. He served for 30 years, living with a family of labourers, then 3 years in His ministry, and He has continued to serve as He cares for the Church and manages the Kingdom of God.
