GIFTS FROM GOD

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from God ..."

This verse is about what God is like. The gifts reveal the Giver, just as Creation reveals the Creator.
When a baby first looks at
his parents, he does
not know much
about them,
but gradually,
as he
grows up
he learns
more and more
about them. It is the same for Christians. When we begin we know very little about God, but as we read the Bible, and look at Nature, and fellowship, we come to know Him better. Part of this process is learning how to distinguish or discern when God has intervened in our lives.

We need to learn about God so we can know when He is sending us a gift.

To know Him is to know His gifts.
James tells us several wonderful things about God:

He is always good,
He always gives good things
He never varies
He never changes
If God Himself was a Gift, what might we expect to find as we unwrapped Him? Inside the box we would find QUALITIES. We would find the fruit of the Spirit - Gal.5:22-25. We would find all those QUALITIES in perfection and all in perfect balance.
Perfect love, perfect righteousness, perfect holiness, perfect wisdom and mercy and so on. We would find the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in perfect harmony, and eternity and life, and the further we looked the more wonderful God would become.

Compare this Gift with the temporary world, and Satan and the rebellious nature of fallen Mankind. These three cannot offer much. Yet there are many people who happily settle for gifts from these three corrupted sources.
