Even the pot-bellied bus driver took the pipe from his lips and came over to shake her small, white hand. Melissa didn't hear what he said, but she knew it was a compliment.
"Can we eat now?" said Lawrence.
"We just had lunch," said Daphne, "Remember?"
"But I'm still hungry!"
Miss Trollop blew the whistle again.
"You have two hours free time, then we will all meet back here again. Stay on the camp grounds."
The room broke up and emptied as everyone ran outside. Melissa pulled her shoes back on. She glanced at Miss Trollop.
"I hope you didn't mind me saying all that" she said. "Nope," said Melissa simply, " But I'm glad you missed out the hepatitis and the diabetes. I don't like people feeling too sorry for me."
"No problem," smiled Miss Trollop.
