"I know" said the driver, pulling into the kerb. He stopped the engine and tapped his fingers on the steering wheel

"What do we do now?" he said.

"Call the police," said Kylie.

"You're sure about this?" the driver asked.

"Of course I'm sure!" said Kylie, "I know everything about him!"

The driver tapped a number into his cell phone and waited. He gave the details to the receptionist and put the phone down again.

"They'll be here in a few minutes," he said.

"Good!" said Kylie.

Alicia smiled and closed the book. She stretched her legs out in front of the fire and sighed. Any minute now her mother would be home. It would be no surprise to her mother that she was here, instead of Kylie. That was how it had always been, ever since the book had been written. Her mother knew about it, because she too had been on the trail of the man with the green umbrella, once, long ago.
