"Remember what?" asked Logan.

"How it all started. This was how I was when I was a baby, only it was in the other hospital, and there were lots more babies."

They're not real are they?" said Alex in wonder.

"Of course they are," said Melanie, "Didn't you know little kids can fly?"

"No?"

"Its only at the start though, just after you're born," said Melanie, "When you don't know anything, and you aren't weighed down with clothes and things."

"But how come nobody told us?"

"They don't want us to know. Society doesn't like kids to know about the freedom they have when they start life. They weigh them down with their rules and stuff right from the start."

"I wish I could still fly," said Logan.

"So do I," said Melanie, "I suppose I can, sort of, when I use my imagination, but its not the same as really doing it."

"I have lots of flying dreams?" said Alex.

"So do I," said Logan.

"This is where we get them from," said Melanie, "We were meant to fly. It's not fair that we have to walk everywhere."

"Is that why people invented airplanes?" asked Alex.

"I guess so."

Suddenly, across the room, a door opened and a nurse entered. She searched the ceiling for a moment then she gently pulled a baby down to her arms and cuddled it. As she turned to go, she must have seen a flicker of light reflecting from off one of the torches, because she stopped and looked straight at the children.

"Watch out!" whispered Logan, ducking down.

The nurse came over to the wall. She was puzzled. She looked through the grill in the door, but the darkness was too dense for her to see anything. Evidently satisfied that nothing was amiss, she walked away again.

"That was close!" whispered Melanie.
