The Egyptians used to think that stars were the souls of dead people who had become gods. They also thought that their rulers (the Pharaohs) were sons of Ra, or sons of the Sun, and they even had a city, called Heliopolis (or City of the Sun) built to honour him.
The people of Babylon worshipped the stars, and made sure that their lives were ordered by them.
