The Smell of Love

There's this girl. Well, you'd think she was good-looking, but I think she was made in heaven. Fantastic. And she knows I like her. Love her I mean.

But there's this boy, Thorne. I call him a thorn because he's just like one to me. Always sticking his nose into my business. Trying to take Amee, that's my girl, when he knows its me she loves.

I can't stand it!

But I don't think Amee will ever talk to me again. Not after what I did!

I'd better tell you what happened, from the beginning.

I was walking down the street with her a few days ago. She was holding my hand. Man, did I feel great! We were talking about perfumes ... I don't know anything about perfumes, but I didn't want Amee to know that. I told her I loved them, like I was some kind of expert.

Then she asked me which were my favorites and I was really stuck because I didn’t know of any! I made up some names, like "0 de la Rose" and "Essence of dove", which I thought was pretty clever of me, but Amee knew I was making them up and got cross.

So I said I'd bring her some perfume the next day, just to prove I was on the line.

"What kind?" she demanded.

"Only the best!" I boasted, "Perfume you can't buy in this country. Really amazing perfume!"

She said: "I know you're lying, so you might as well own up now!"

I said "Me, lying?"

She said: "Yes, and if you don't bring some perfume like you say tomorrow, I'll make friends with that Thorne boy you hate so much!"

I didn't know what to say. This was like a living nightmare!

"But Amee!" was all I managed.

It didn't do any good. She meant it.

We went round the streets for a few more blocks then I said good-bye at her gate and walked on. It was sunny, and there were lots of bright flowers in the gardens,
