Manna and Honeydew

I was reading a Nature book one day when I came across these words"
Honeydew is thought to be the manna from heaven referred to in the Bible".

First of all, what is "honeydew?

Honeydew is the sticky stuff which comes from the bodies of some insects,
such as the aphid and the mealy bug.
As aphid suck the sap from plants, they also suck in a lot of water and
sugar which they don't need, so they push it out of their bodies. Some ant
look after aphid and collect the honeydew. Yum!

What is "manna"?

Manna is the food which God gave to the people of Israel as they went from
Egypt to Palestine. You can read about it in the Bible, in the book of
Exodus.

The Bible says this about "manna"
1. It was there only in the mornings,

2. It was gathered off the ground,

3. It did not appear every seventh day,

4. If it was hoarded it went rotten,

5. It appeared every day six days a week for 40 years,

6. If someone was too weak to gather their allowance, the manna grew,

7. If someone was greedy and gathered too much, the manna shrank,

8. It tasted like honey and wafer biscuits,

9. There was enough to feed about 3 million people.

10. It disappeared as soon as the people of Israel finished their trek
through the wilderness.

If you look at what the Bible says. you can see that honeydew and manna
are two very different things.

Aphids do not make honeydew only six days a week, nor do they leave it on
the ground, nor does honeydew grow or shrink depending on who gathers it,
nor does it taste like biscuits and honey.

It is much more sensible to simply believe the Bible, than try to squeeze
what it says into silly theories.
