God of war

One of the most common mistakes people make is to think that the God of the Old Testament is a God of war, while the New Testament Lord Jesus was a man of peace. This idea, that the two testaments depict a different God, is completely wrong. It is exactly the same God, with exactly the same message, in both testaments.

For example, it was God (O.T.) who warned the world that if it did not repent it would be destroyed by a flood. It was the Lord Jesus (NT.) who warned the Jews that if they didn't repent their city would be destroyed by siege and slaughter.

It was Jehovah (O.T.) who told Israel to destroy the Canaanites, and it was Jesus (N.T.) who predicted the fiery destruction of the wicked at the end of the age.

There is no difference between either of the testaments because Gods standards and God Himself have never changed. The only really big difference between the two testaments is the fact that, in the N.T. God showed His great love for us by dying on the cross - taking the fiery judgment for us.

God has always been a God of war, but God has also always been a God of love and mercy, who does not want anyone to perish. People who don't understand this miss the point that God cannot deny Himself and go against His own nature.

The Bible says : "And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, "The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty. Exodus 34:6,7 (King James Version)
