Preview of Handout:![]() Wording of this Handout:Everything the world offersSolomon was a king, a poet, and a scientist. Yes, a scientist. He did an experiment to test whether anything could satisfy his soul, and he wrote his conclusions - its all in Ecclesiastes chapter 2. Solomon tried all the things people keep trying today. He tried laughter, wine, building mansions, growing grapes, planting gardens, parks, orchards and scenic areas, he tried ponds and pools, he tried having slaves and servants everywhere, he tried having herds and flocks, he tried gathering great amounts of gold and silver, he tried orchestras and choirs and music, and he tried every luxury he could think of. These are all the things which people have always, and are still today, chasing after. He found that all the things he tried gave him a certain amount of pleasure and none of them were bad or wrong, but not one thing satisfied his empty heart. As a friend of mine once said “I’ve left school, got a job, reached twenty years old, had a trip overseas, bought a house, married, had children. . . I thought each time that each of these things would make me happy, but they’re all in the past now. And I’ve found that Jesus is by far the best thing in my life.” Solomon’s conclusion after the series of experiments was “Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that it had cost me to do them; and behold, all was vanity and pursuit of the wind, and there was no profit under the sun”.
