Preview of Handout: Wording of this Handout:Blind but seeingHelen Keller grew up blind and deaf. This means that she could not hear anything or see anything. She lived in a world of dark silence, and had to make sense of her surroundings by touching things. But Helen was determinded to learn. One day she realised that the curious vibrations in peoples throats was related to something they were saying, and she soon connected the feel of the sound to the objects the sounds were about. One day when she was very good at understanding words, a doctor called Phillip Brookes explained some simple things to Helen about God her heavenly Father. To the doctor's surprise Helen told him that she already knew about God but didn't have a word for Him. Helen expressed her love for God many times through her life. Somehow she knew that there must be more to life, and even in her dark, silent 'prison' she had great happiness in the knowledge that God was real. This really surprised alot of people, but it should not surprise Christians because we know that the same God who made us, also placed within us the ability to know Him. Helen could see a lot more with her heart than many good-sighted people could see with their eyes. The Bible says: "For we walk by faith, not by sight". 2 Corinthians 5:7 |
