Preview of Handout: Wording of this Handout:Answered prayerBefore I start, let me say that God is not in the business of providing dozens of signs and wonders to boister our faith. He prefers that we believe His written word. The most important part of the Bible is prophecy, because Satan cannot see into the future. Prophecy therefore conforms the reality of God. But sometimes God gives a miracle or sign to help people, especially genuine seekers, to find the truth. One case was a young man I met when I lived in Roxburgh. This man had been thinking about becoming a Christian, but is mind was full of doubts. One cold night, as he sat by himself in his room, he decided to really seek God. He looked at his two-bar heater and said "God, if you're real, please turn on of those bars off". Straight away one bar switched itself off! The man was so amazed he got on his knees and asked Jesus into his life then and there. But we must be careful here. There is no scriptural warrant for anyone having heaters switching themselves on and off every time they need a little more faith. That would turn God into a performer, and it would also ruin the chances of anyone being saved by faith. The Bible says: "For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7 |
