Angels

Hollywood has had a lot of fun with angels over the last few years. They turn up as baseball players, and 'good guys', and comedians, and supernatural villains, and hey can be very entertaining.

But what is an angel, really? And what is their work supposed to be?

God created the angels. They can appear so similar to humans that people have sometimes talked to them and not known what they were. They can eat, walk and speak, and they wear clothes, and they do NOT have wings covered in feathers.

Some angels which God made joined with Satan, the most important angel at the time, in a rebellion against God, and were all sent to live on earth. Invisible most of the time, these wicked beings spend their time deceiving humans and stirring up rebellion against God's authority.

On the other hand there are many good angels, whose work is mainly to hold back Satan's effort, and help Christians.

The Bible says: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." Hebrews 13:2
