Wording of this Handout:

Hell

I remember a children's club where the children asked me what Hell was like. Rather than launch into a verse by verse lecture, I told them this story:

"Please write on a piece of paper all the things you like."

The children wrote things like "FOOD, NICE CLOTHES, SUNSHINE, SWIMMING, CHOCOLATE, FRESH AIR," and a few other things. I added a few other things, such as HEALTH, HAPPINESS and LOVE.

I put all these bits of paper into a box and said "This is a bit like what heaven will be like. Full of good things". Then I started taking the pieces of paper out, reading the words on them as I went.

"No sunshine in hell, or happiness, or yummy food, and no friends. . . not a nice place to go. Wouldn't it be a much better idea to go to heaven instead?"

The children weren't very impressed when they saw the empty box, but you know, that empty box is quite a good way of describing hell, because if you don't want to be with God, you can't really expect to enjoy all His blessings. God and His blessings come together, like a 'package deal'!

The Bible describes hell this way: ". . . the blackness of darkness for ever". Jude 1:13 (King James version)
