Preview of Handout:![]() Wording of this Handout:EvilMost movies have a goodie and a baddie. The goodie fights for justice and goodness, while the baddie does all he (or she) can do to wreck the world. In the story of Star Wars, Luke Skywalker has to defeat the evil Emperor. The Force is used, light against dark, and good triumphs over evil as the Emperor falls to his death. In all the stories we see or read the same old theme always appears. Good versus evil, and virtually all stories have the same ending: good wins. Even in a tragedy there is a sense of justice being done, even when the ‘goodie’ dies. But the interesting thing about evil is that it cannot exist by itself. It needs goodness as a contrast, otherwise nobody can tell if it is evil. Our universe was made by God. God is pure GOODNESS. He is by far the most overwhelmingly abundant power in the whole universe . . . but down here on tiny little earth is Satan and his followers and a few million humans who aspire to be like him. They are evil, wicked, rebellious and enemies of God, but we wouldn’t know this unless we also had God’s, goodness as a ‘background’ to throw them into contrast. We wouldn’t know what darkness was unless there was light to shine in it. The Bible says : “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” Ephesians 6:12 |
