Preview of Handout:![]() Wording of this Handout:Christian musicAfter many years of thinking about the subject, I still have no clear idea of what exactly “Christian music” is! But I DO have a clear idea of what Christian music is NOT. The main problem is taste. What appeals to me music wise, may not appeal to some other Christian. Personally I love Classical music, but even here there is ‘good’ classical and ‘bad’ classical, so it doesn’t matter which type of music anyone likes, there is sure to be someone who does not like it. However, God has given us a standard by which we can measure things. When it comes to music we must make sure that the words are in line with what he Bible teaches - be sure we are not listening to seductive, deceptive, sinful lyrics. And what about the costumes of the singers? Are they modest, or do they portray dress which is in rebellion to God’s standards of modesty? The rhythm too is important. Is it a driving beat, or is it a balanced and pleasant rhythm? Each of us must decide for ourselves, and then not try to force other Christians to conform to our tastes. The Bible says: “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. Philippians 4:8 (King James Version) |
