Preview of Handout:![]() Wording of this Handout:After the resurrectionIf someone comes along and says they seen something weird, most people don't believe them. But if two or three people say they have seen the same thing, you tend to thing they might be telling you the truth. But if lots and lots of people come along, all saying the same thing, you start to believe them. After all, a few hundred eyewitnesses is very persuasive. This is how it was after Jesus rose from the dead. He kept appearing to people. For fifty days, until he went into heaven, he appeared to lots of people, ate with them, talked to them, taught them things . . . and here is a list of people as the Bible gives them: Mary Magdalene near the tomb, the women returning from the tomb, Peter, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, all apostles except Tomas, all the apostles including Thomas, the seven disciples by the lake, 500 believers all at once, James the apostles again and finally at the time when he rose into heaven, Paul, Stephen and John on the island of Patmos. All these people were as sensible and normal as you or I, and they were all perfectly sure that Jesus was alive again - that it wasn't a ghost or something. The Bible says: "After that, he was seen by more than five hundred believers at once: of whom the greater part remain to this present, but some are fallen asleep (have died)". 1 Corinthians 15:6 |
