Preview of Handout:![]() Wording of this Handout:Another Polytech storyOne of the classes I went to at Polytech was called 'Life Drawing'. and it lasted three hours, and it seemed a long time to concentrate on some boring little object, so two or three students asked if they could bring their cassette-players along and liven up the time with a little music. As a result, we ended up with some pretty hairy music pounding away for about half the time, and not all the students were happy with it because what one student loved, the others hated. There were some pretty fierce arguments over the choice of music. After a few weeks I decided to make my move. I said "Well, since all these other students have been allowed to play what they want, maybe I should be allowed to play a tape of my choice too?" There as a groan because everyone expected me to want to listen to 'Christian' music - you know, hymns and organs and mass choirs. When the riot had quietened down, I argued for democracy, and quite rightly, got my way, then I slipped a tape by 'Scripture in Song' into the player - quite modern music at that time - and the whole class said it was "quite good". I didn't try again after that because all I wanted to do was make a point. The Bible says: "One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and to the stranger that sojourns (lives) among you". Exodus 12:49 |
