desperation
by richard moore

Clutching,grasping,clawing,scratching
The minions of sin, hard at work on my soul;
My eyes always upwards, gaze fixed on my saviour
Scared to look down, lest I fall in the hole.

Last time I looked, I reeled back in horror
The image was something I could not behold
Wicked and evil, barren and empty
A reflection of life from the body of old.

I thank God for his grace and his endless compassion
For the death of his dear son, who paid for my sin
On that tree at Golgotha, he suffered and perished
And opened the gateway for all to come in.
