EASTER
by Stan Arney © 2007

Jesus was crucified upon a cross this we know for sure
But did He rise from the dead, and why does this story endure
By faith, we believe that everything about the event is true
That you are a believer in Christ, means you accept it too

Let us look at the evidence, based on the Bible we read
It shall supply all the information and witnesses we need
The Bible tells us there were Jews and Romans present
Jesus died on the cross, to this testimony they would consent

He was removed from the cross, placed in a tomb, sealed by a stone
There was no one with Him, His body at rest, simply alone
After three days, Romans and Jews alike witnessed His body gone
Including Mary, and two of His disciples Peter and John

Behold Angels from Heaven asked them why did they search
The answer was the foundation of the Christian Church
For He is not here, for He has risen, filled their hearts with joy
They had to spread the wonderful news as His special envoy

Jesus appeared to Mary and to His disciples as well
The truth of His resurrection, each could confirm and retell
Over 500 witnesses could attest to what they knew as true
I guess the question is, is that enough evidence for you

For forty days, Jesus would continue to teach them all
He even changed the life of a man known once as Saul, now Paul
Jesus ascended into Heaven, but promised to send aide
The Holy Spirit would arrive to assist those Christ saved

Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus comes to reside in each of us
Just the thought of this concept leaves me quite speechless
So we celebrate Easter, with this event etched in our mind
God’s love, mercy, and saving grace completely defined.
