The Death and Resurection of Jesus
by Nicky Dalbeth

They mocked you and they struck you,
They beat you again and again.
They made you carry the cross,
To the place your life would end.

They labelled you 'King of the Jews',
Hurled insults and shook their heads.
They said, "Save yourself, come down off the cross,
And prove what you have said!"

But you had other motives,
You had other plans.
To give up your life that day,
A living sacrifice for man.

Although you were in pain,
And cried out to your dad,
You gave up your life for me,
And all the dignity you had.

The curtain of the temple,
Was torn completely in two.
Holy people were raised to life,
Who were buried in the tombs.

Your body was wrapped in linen cloth,
An in a tomb was placed.
Your lifeless body resting,
From the torture it had faced.

An angel of the lord appreared,
And rolled away the stone.
His appearance was like lightning,
And clothes as white as snow.

After the third day this is,
On the third day of the week,
"He is risen from the dead,"
The angel of the lord did speak.

On that glorious day, oh Lord,
Some women you did greet.
Filled with joy they ran to you,
And worshipped at your feet.

"Do not be afraid," you said,
"to go to Galilee,
Go and tell my brothers,
For there they will see me."

The disciples went to the mountain,
Where you had told them to be.
There you told them, "All authority
Is given unto me."

"Make disciples of all the nations,
And baptize them in the name,
Of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
For them to earth I came."

"Obey what I command you,
And everything I say,
And surely I am with you,
To the very end of age."
