The Purpose
by Fern © 2005

So, God, this is your gift to me.
My burden, opportunity:
Eyes that see the pain inside,
A heart that reaches out to hold.

You let me go through suffering
To help me see and understand.
You strengthened nurture's flow of love
By channelling it through womb of sand.

You guided me to those in pain;
Sore hearts unlocked their agony:
Was I supposed to heal their wounds
Or lead their brokenness to thee?

You opened up my ears to hear
A distant cry, a soundless scream.
You led my feet to muddy shores
To salvage those who washed downstream.

In recent years I calm the tears
And reach for dreams in children's minds;
Their small hearts not yet set in stone;
Their paths can be repaired in time.
