The Angel's Plea
by Norman Wagoner © 1998

The sun was covered up that day,
as darkness filled the sky.
Upon the cross hung Jesus Christ,
to die for sin and lies.

A hundred million angels stood,
their teeth clinched tight in pain,
Waiting for their Lord's command,
to rescue Him from shame.

An anxious angel then stepped forth,
...tired of the wait.
"What is it that my Lord has done
that this price must be paid?"

Silence filled the universe,
as God pulled him aside
"You see," God said, "The answer's clear,
just open up your eyes."

God opened up the future,
and pointed with His hand.
"You see down there, 2,000 years,
you see that desperate man?"

"He is a sinner, fails Me oft,
his soul is surly lost."
"The price for sin he surly owes,
but he cannot pay the cost."

The angel's understanding grew
as he looked down to see,
The sins of all such desperate men
were nailed to calvary.

"Some day," God said, "will be your part,
to help that desperate man."
"To watch his life, to help him live,
to help him with My plan."

The angel took his place in line,
the future he could see.
For in the future pointed to,
that desperate man was me.

"How do you know?" you ask me now,
"How can you be so sure?"
"That the desperate man God pointed to,
was you through future's door?"

Well friend, please let me tell you,
it's not that hard to know.
I feel an angel's presence and my Lord
where ere I go.

Each time I step aside to sin,
A voice cries "CALVARY!!"
I'm reminded of the price Christ paid,
And I hear the angel's plea!
