On Bended Knee
by Carol Dee Meeks © 2007

I find it difficult to say
that evil lives within my heart.
The urge, always to get my way,
rampages like a rampart’s chart.

To run the race my God approves
is my desire, but I fall short.
My sin, The Holy One removes;
and misery, He does abort.

The waging wars of dark and light,
of good and bad, of weak and might,
are burning passions in my soul
but God forgives and makes me whole.

The flesh and spirit struggle so,
but God sustains the path I go
while keeping focus just on Him,
my future’s bright. It is not dim.

If I could be content like Paul,
in everything, On God I’d call;
remember Jesus set me free,
then go to Him on bended knee.
