Say The Prayer by Kathleen Higham I opened my eyes to my surroundings And it was becoming a nightmare Rooms overflowing with hurting people An atmosphere filled with despair Haunted eyes stared back at me Hearing cries and moans in the night Nurses scurrying about and pressed It seems some had lost the fight I saw this man with vacant eyes Sitting quietly with his wife It seemed as if all hope was gone Barely perceptible was her life A prayer came fleetingly to my lips But instead I just walked away Left that poor man sitting there When I should have stopped to pray I had my own concerns that day God knew the anxiety of my soul But it screamed inside my head A picture of a couple not whole His partner was so very sick The man was ready to cry And yet I did absolutely nothing Knowing that woman might die Why did I walk away that day I wanted God to comfort me Crying out to Him constantly But I did nothing you see Oh but God answered my prayer And I went back to that place But I couldn't find that man I still can see his face So when our Father speaks to us Let His Spirit take you there God's loving Words from your lips The unfailing gift of His Prayer Now every time I go there For that broken man I will look Remembering God never failed me His Words reach out from His Book I hold my Bible in my hands With a heart filled with regret A prayer that waits in hopefulness For a man that I never met |
