The Prodigal
by Gertrude Jefferies

Though our hearts would break within us,
For that one who's gone astray,
Though our tears would flow so freely
As on bended knees we pray.
Though the tempter often whispers
That he's never coming home,
We believe that he'll stand with us
When we gather round the throne.

The power of God is mighty,
And the love of God is strong,
And the precious Blood of Jesus
Covers each and every wrong.
For His ear is open always,
To the faintest, weakest cry,
And those loving arms reach downward
Where the broken masses lie.

He alone can make the difference,
In a life that's chained by sin,
He can take those broken pieces
Put them together again.
So, although tonight he wanders,
Far away in paths of sin,
We believe that prayer and faith
Will bring the wanderer home again.
