Soldiers

The loss has been overwhelming
Tears fall down in endless pain
For all who have given their lives
But I pray not one died in vain

Far far from here courage reigns
So many innocent ones are lost
It's impossible to understand this
Yet who could have known the cost

Terror strikes on every side
But they never turn away
Standing firm in faithfulness
Protecting us day after day

Oh the loss is overwhelming
As these men and women fight
Freedom is what binds them
In the horrors of the night

And tragically we've failed them
When broken they come back
The richest country in the world
Our soldiers should never lack

It seems it doesn't touch us
But we need to be in prayer
For those who crossed the continent
It's our pain that they bear

The loss has been overwhelming
And these soldiers surely knew
For suffering came relentlessly
But what did Jesus do

He walked the cross to victory
Our soldiers are walking too
Bearing the pain, thousands slain
They died for me and you
