God's Crucible
by Gertrude Jefferies

In the crucible he's placed me
Turned the heat up oh so high
I fear I will never make it
But the Refiner sits close by.

He watches very carefully
As the heat seems hotter still
But the hand of the Refiner
Holds me in his perfect will.

How I want it to be over
I can't bear this awful cross
But he knows that it is needed
To refine and cleanse from dross.

I know he will never leave me
One day longer than he should
Even though it is so painful
It is only for my good.

As the crucible grows hotter
He is watching intently
He is waiting for the moment
When his Image he can see.
