The Homeless Stranger by Pearl Sturgis One day I walked with a homeless stranger and placed a Bible in his hand. I gave my sandwich and glass of water. I told him Jesus understands. He said, I wander on earth a stranger. No friends or family of my own. When I leave this old world of sorrow, no one will miss me when I'm gone. Life is a struggle; a weary journey; The cold winds chill me to the bone. I do not fit in this world I live in. No place on earth to call my home." I kept remembering the homeless stranger I went to find him one more time. I found his body, so cold and lifeless and in his hand these words of rhyme. "My last request to whoever finds this: Please carve these words upon my stone. I'll be a witness to all who read this: "The homeless Stranger has gone HOME!" |
