Somewhere in The Heart by Brenda Lynch A heart grown cold lays broken in pieces, yet the hunger inside never ceases. Rejection manifests it's ugly face to arms reaching out, seeking an embrace. The pain and sorrow buried down deep as condemnation haunted my sleep. To the lusts of this world addicted as the abuse became self-inflicted. Yet though death called to me like a sweet perfume; as I bore my affliction it did not consume. For when I walked in darkness You offered me Your light and even when I refused, You never lost sight of the child that was lost somewhere in the heart, in the spirit of this woman lost in the dark. Who in ignorance, denied Your truth as I drank of the folly of my youth. Hesitant to reach out, fearing You would turn away just as those before whose love did betray. But no matter what I did to keep you out, You just wouldn't stop; when I built a wall around my heart, You climbed to the top. Brick by brick you tore down that wall and there before me You stood strong and tall. Steadfast in Your purpose, professing Your love for me until I could no longer deny that which I did hear, that which I did see. And the pieces of this heart were put back in place, the hunger inside satisfied as we stood face to face. And I knew in the blink of an eye that You would never betray, nor make me cry. For in all my searching, never again shall I find a love such as Yours to caress this heart of mine. |
