I Thought I Knew You by Kathleen Higham I thought I knew You God When I was young and wild Life had taken me down a path Where I was touched, then beguiled I thought I knew You God Because sometimes I was kind Selfish, yet unselfish too It seemed right in my mind I thought I knew You God Not till I was completely broken Did I absolutely know You God I listened for Your words spoken I thought I knew You God With my face pressed to the floor Gut wrenching sobs wracked me When I couldn't find You anymore I thought I knew You God Until a heart filled with fear Doubting my very existence As I asked, "Are You here" I thought I knew You God I did when all was well Then the crushing blows came And I went straight to hell I thought I knew You God As I wallowed in my sin Until at last, I acquiesced I prayed and asked You in Oh, the beauty of Your words There is nothing I won't do To hear You whisper to my soul My child, "I know you." |
