"I'm Not Afraid"
by Kathleen Higham

I'm not afraid of death, but
I have a curiosity about dying
It's just the when of it
Too many times, shocked, I'm sighing.

I'm not afraid of life, but
I have a curiosity about living
It's just the how of it
Too many times, pain, no forgiving.

I'm not afraid of love, but
I have a curiosity about loving
It's just the who of it
Too many times, lies, not loving.

I'm not afraid to fail, but
I have a curiosity about failing
It's just the surety of it
Too many hearts break, paling.

I'm not afraid to succeed, but
I have a curiosity about succeeding
It's just the frailty of it
Too many liars, misleading.

I'm not afraid to speak, but
I have a curiosity about speaking
It's just the consequences of it
Too many cruel words, seeking.

I'm not afraid to be a fool, but
I have a curiosity about fooling
It's just the insanity of it
Too many times, it's God, I'm dueling.

I'm not afraid of joy, but
I have a curiosity about enjoying
It's just the carelessness of it
Too many times, deceiving, toying.

I'm not afraid to think, but
I have a curiosity about thinking
It's just the thought of it
Too many times, a mind, shrinking.

I'm not afraid of death, but
I have a curiosity about dying
It's just the fact of it
Too many times, caught, lying.

I'm not afraid of life
I have a curiosity about living
It's just the thrill of it
Too many times, He did the giving.

I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid
I have a curiosity, not a fear
It's just the wonder of it
Too many times, thank God, He's here.
