WHERE ARE YOU GOING OLD MAN
by Janette Lueveen © 2008

WHERE ARE YOU GOING OLD MAN

Where are you going old man,
with that hoe in your hand?
To till the soil and, on bended knee,
plant the harvest that soon will be.

Where are you going old man,
with that rifle in your hand?
Into the woods and if I am able,
put a fattened rabbit, on my table.

Where are you going old man,
with that fishing pole in your hand?
Just down the road, to the lake
some big fish, I'll surely take.

Where are you going old man,
with that flag in your hand?
To the town, where all agree,
Honor goes to those, who kept us free.

Where are you going old man,
with all those flowers, in your hand?
To the cemetery. I'll plant them there
upon the grave, of my wife so fair.

Where are you going old man,
with that whiskey bottle in your hand?
Out to the porch and for a while,
I'll ease the pains, of life's loneliest trial.

Where are you going old man,
with that Bible in your hand?
To the church and, on bended knee,
I'll plant myself, O Lord, in Thee.
