God's Guidance in Trouble
by Hayley Pennington

Turmoil and pain in which I writhe, O, I writhe --
The smiles do wain of those who behold me, once blithe --
I endure -- no more -- moaning by the pearly door of holiness.
The pain is unceasing, seemingly increasing until not even I regard my lowliness.

No word does concur to be heard from my thought, for strength finds me odious.
I can see nothing but darkness, hear nothing of the melodious.
As all fades, I am gracefully granted one infinitesimal utterance,
Which then wades through my memory and thought, finding no assurance

Until You come with resplendency into my despair
With rage for my oppressors and love for my trembling being.
Then I'm stricken dumb, for my dependency's complete with fare:
Your sage rain sighs as You wash my eyes to be seeing.
