Frankincense, Myrrh, and Gold
by Sandra Graham © 2006

Wisemen traversed from afar,
Guided by a radiant star.
Bearing costly gifts, we're told,
Frankincense, and myrrh, and gold.

Following that sign, which led
To Bethlehem, the House of Bread.
They found the young boy Jesus there,
And bowed and worshipped as in prayer.

Did Mary ponder, deep in thought,
In wonder at the gifts they'd brought?
What possible meaning could they hold,
That frankincense, and myrrh, and gold?

The gold, we know, an offering,
Worthy of a Mighty King!
The incense frank, and myrrh foretold
Their place in history, down the road.

For in His graveclothes, closely bound,
Were myrrh and incense, tightly wound.
And in the gathered dark and gloom,
Their fragrance filled the lonely tomb.

For years the awesome tale's been told,
Of frankincense, and myrrh, and gold!
