Burdens
by Joy Wieters

I carry my sissy around the room.
It's late, it's dark, I'm tired.
But it's okay, because I know,
I carry a burden I can't let go.
& burdens make me strong.

I labor over math, trying hard to concentrate.
But it muddles in my face, I say,
"Why must I do this?" but I know.
It's okay, and on I go.
& burdens make me strong.

I'm reading my Bible, but it's late.
I'm tired, I can't take it in, it confuses me.
But I know I must, and God will speak.
Though my burden's reached it's peak.
& burdens make me strong.

I stand up, "I don't think so."
Kid's laugh, the teacher stares, I am judged.
God give me the words to say,
For another burden's come my way.
& burdens make me strong.
