I Heard A Child Laugh
by Joy Wieters

I heard a child laugh,
No words can describe
How I treasure that sound,
How it echoes inside.

These walls all around me,
Come tumbling down.
When I heard a child laugh,
My defenses crashed down.

When I heard a child laugh,
The pain wore away.
But to those who've lost children,
Pain more than can say.

I grieve for the parents,
Friends, Uncle, and Aunt,
All who've heard that child laugh
Are in pain, heart distraught.

God knows how it feels,
To hear loved laughter end.
But our Father knows,
They're laughing with Him.

I smile through my tears,
Though I ache and I yearn.
But to hear a child laugh,
Is not something you earn.

It's like kisses from God,
Falling wet on your cheek,
Fingerprints of God
Seen in their tiny feet.

A child's faith reflects,
Simple trust for the day.
And when I hear children laugh,
I yearn to trust God that way.

"Let the children come to me."
Echoes in my heart.
All adopted are we,
Kids of God in our heart.

I heard a child laugh,
My day is complete.
But for those who have children
Who tenderly sleep,

With Jesus they're held,
In strong arms not your own.
Know kids all around need you,
And that you're not alone.

I'll pray everyday,
And You'll need it for years,
For one sweet voice to end,
Deserves thousands of tears.

Find a child, make them laugh,
You'll hear nothing more sweet.
God treasures His children,
In Him we're complete.
