The Absent Father
by Albert Watson

Dad, the reason I am phoning you
It's a week since you decided to
leave our home, you wanted space,
to try and get you head in place.

You didn't think about my head
the way I cry most nights in bed.
How I miss that goodnight hug
hot chocolate made in special mug.

Remember what you said you'd do
now my thirteen birthdays due,
fly us off to the Spanish sol,
now tossed away like an old rag doll.

At school they are teaching me
this subject called biology,
though Dad, you have gone away
we're forever linked by DNA.

Mom and I have talked a lot,
Is it another woman you've got?
Dad, I just don't want to be
in a single parent, family.
