Around my neck I wear a cross
by edward potts

Around my neck I wear a cross,
It reminds me of the awful cost,
I know that I can never repay,
The pain from nails He felt that day.

The cross reminds me of blood He shed.
From a crown of thorns upon His head,
Of a spear driven deeply in His side,
His mother's tears she couldn't hide.

It reminds me of Calvary's hill
Which He climbed in His Father's will,
It reminds me of the crowd below,
They laugh, they jeer, to see Him go.

It reminds me of the One they hung,
Between two thieves, hung God's Son,
They placed a sign above His head,
THE KING OF THE JEWS, IS WHAT IT SAID.

Put in a tomb on the side of a hill,
Some think He remains there still,
The stone moved away, the cross I wear
Reminds me daily, HE IS NOT THERE.
