Words!
by Patricia Joan Polhans

THE TONGUE!!!
Our mouth is the source of our communication
But…oh…how it can bring such devastation.
Words can be sharper than a two-edged sword
As they pierce the depths of men's hearts to the core.
Words! Once you've ventured to let them escape
Can cause devastation and bring disgrace.
REALIZE!!!
Words have more force than the strongest hurricane
And when released can destroy the same.
They can crush the spirit of a tender young heart,
Destroy his soul as it tares him apart!
Words can utterly ruin the heart of any man
And once escaped can ne'er be captured again.
THINK!!!
Words have brought many strong men down,
Tears on their cheeks as they drop to the ground!
Then, we stand amazed that we didn't use clout
For our words 're arrows shooting poison from our mouth.
Words rolled like bitter gall from off our tongues
Only to return to us as bitter dung!
HOWEVER!!!
Words can also be as soothing as the spring rain
If given with thought and not spoken in vain.
They can be like sweet water upon our tongue
As we console the heart of a loved one.
Words can give hope and comfort to those that hear
And can give life to a broken spirit that's near .
BUT!!!
Bitter and sweet water can't flow from the same brook
For it is written down in the Lord's Holy Book.
Our mouths are a weapon that can bring unity or division
And how we use it is our decision!!!
GOD'S WORD!!!
"But I tell you that men will have to give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
(Matthew 12:35-37)
