The Sparrow by Patricia Joan Polhans I am but a helpless sparrow Sitting upon the tall rooftop, Tiny and insignificant As I swoop down to make a stop. But, when the avenger comes to try and pounce upon me I am more than a weak sparrow to the one whose eyes doth see. I have the strength of an eagle as I soar out over the trees For Jehovah gives me the strength as I achieve the victory! I see pleasure, I see danger as Satan follows me around. Like a striking cat he plunges As I make a sharp, screaming sound. It scared away the avenger as he came to pounce upon me While my wings turned up toward heaven I have received the victory. Not a loud sound or piercing noise can set my mighty wings to flight For in my nest I am sheltered all through the murky, dim lit night. When my sleeping eyes shall waken I shall fin'ly begin to see How that the crafty avenger tried to slyly pounce upon me. But, ne'er again shall he taunt me From the pitch-dark valley below as his hand reaches out to catch This weak, trusting little sparrow. "His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me." |
