Promises Made; Promises Broken

Promises made, promises broken;
promises written and promises spoken.
Do most people's promises mean much these days,
or are they just words that we think we should say?

Promises made might one day be broken;
many a promise far too quickly spoken.
Please help us dear God, to always take care
and think before promises we might declare.

Don't take an oath that you feel you might break
for your honor; integrity is here at stake.
Consider your words to be binding and true,
then others will know they can always trust you.
