Mother
by Patricia Joan Polhans

Oh, mother how the years have flown by
Since I last saw you and gazed in your eyes.
How I've longed to embrace you with a kiss,
Feel your arms about me for this I've missed.

Death took you that night so long ago.
As it whisked you away during an early snow.
It seemed only yesterday that I held your hand
As we walked together through this dark land.

I was never sorry, nor was I ashamed
To have a mother like you, I've not complained.
My heart was broken as you were put to rest,
When you took your last and final fleeting breath.

Oh… to touch your hand just one last time
And express what's in our hearts, yours and mine.
I long for the closeness that we once had
The good times, the bad times and even the sad.

And, for me, there will never be any other
Who can take your place my dear, precious mother!
