A Light Upon the Path
by Jeff Bidiman

In the land of infinite shadow,
Where winds of promise do not blow,
He walked alone in his despair
When something stirred the doleful air.

Suddenly stopping in his track,
As the dark void called him back,
His feet were bridled to the ground;
A light advanced without a sound.

A light so pleasing to his eyes,
It unveiled the dark's disguise.
Recoiling with hateful dread,
The unlit cursed and quickly fled.

With the flight of that black bird,
The light became a mighty word
Which began to swiftly spread,
Beaming brightly above his head.

Then the land of infinite shadow
Transformed before the word's warm glow.
Soon the word was everywhere.
Dissolving all his dark despair.

It lit the path beneath his feet,
Where he found his joy replete.
A lamp to always light his way
Toward the promise of a new day.
