My Dark Past
by Albert Watson

Thinking Lord about my past
Sends a chill an icy blast,
Into heart and mind and soul
How then can this child be whole?
My father a drunkard full of beer
At night came home, along with fear.
He'd throw his dinner up the wall,
Beat up mom then me did maul,
A house of tears misery and hate.
To kids at school I could not relate,
Each smartly dressed in uniform
Old hand me downs for me the norm.
Most teachers there did sympathise
Though one, this wretched girl despised.
You will never count for much
Crippled then, I still need a crutch.
I'm older now just twenty two
Of relationships, I've had a few
Then the past's ugliness appears
Can I remove those awful years.

I've watched you tread this sad terrain,
Seen your hurt and know your pain.
Come seek my Son on Calvary's cross
He'll take your pain, remove the dross.
At this place there's hope, find joy,
A promised home beyond the sky.
Be born again, a new creation
And in the Christ, find your salvation.
