Maybe Not, or Yet It May
by Kathleen Higham

Who am I to even say?
Wonder why life remains this way
Who am I indeed to tempt fate?
If for the Lord I cannot wait.

Wait-it seems a forgotten word
Yet silent petitions must be heard
So impatiently I cried and wailed
Knowing in my heart, I failed.

Failed-I have fallen down again
This folly snares the best of men
Now disappointment comes to me
A better person, I wished to be.

Be-Could this really be the day?
Maybe not, or yet it may
Would it be brave to dare?
Commit to God my secret prayer.

Prayer-ask and you shall receive
Sometimes it's so hard to believe
How long must a weary heart cope?
Deep in my soul, I buried hope.

Hope-hope, it surely cannot be lost
And who am I to count the cost?
Only One has paved the way
As He waits to hear us pray.

Pray-pray, then wait, wait, wait
For the God who is never late
Oh, this just might be the day
Maybe not, or yet it may.
